The business backstory:
"Matty TePaea started Original Graffix in 2006 with his wife Lana after an ACL injury forced him to take a step back from rugby and focus on his love for art and natural creative talent.
It all began at Carrara Markets when Kane and his wife Jacque, who were on holiday from New Zealand, crossed paths with Matty and Lana. Kane, a talented graffiti mural artist, was captivated by Matty's exceptional talent and intrigued by the tool he used to create his graffiti hats. They exchanged contact details and stayed in touch for two years. Eventually, Matty extended an invitation to Kane, asking him to move to the Gold Coast and join the business and follow his own passion for art. With the growing demand and the need for another artist, Kane saw this as an incredible opportunity to learn from Matty and work alongside him.
In 2008, Kane and Jacque, a young couple from South Auckland, made the move to the Gold Coast, Australia, and began working for Matty and Lana under the business name Gangsta Graffix.

Over the years, the business flourished, leading to the opening of shops in Movie World, Sea World, and Dream World in 2011. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought about closures at the theme parks, forcing the business to shift its focus to the online realm. Despite the challenges, their online presence thrived, and with border closures in Queensland, the business experienced even more growth online. During this time, Matty's passion for large-scale murals took him on journeys around the world. As his success in this area grew, he found it increasingly challenging to balance both ventures, even with the help of his talented wife Lana who was juggling her event business "Party with Lana" and the daily maintenance of Original Graffix and its staff.

In 2021, Matty made the decision to sell the business to Kane and Jacque, who were ready to take the reins.

Matty continues to travel the world, creating sought-after large-scale murals including the recent Elvis mural Matty created for the opening of the new Elvis movie filmed on the Gold Coast. His Elvis mural is only one of many that have amazed people from all over the world and still does to this day.
